“The community of Genoa and Savona ports aims to reach Europe and a continental dimension also through fruit and vegetables”, said Giampaolo Botta, general manager of Spediporto, an association of Genoese shipping companies.

The port of Genoa-Savona and its operators have a double opportunity to present themselves in Berlin: the stand of the Port System Authority of the western Ligurian Sea and, for the first time, that of the Liguria Region.

“The Authority – explains Botta – organized an aperitif as a meeting point with important logistics operators, while at the Liguria Region stand we are present together with Assagenti and Confcommercio International to promote the excellence of the Ligurian territory. In addition to fruit and vegetable production and related services, such as the general Sgm market, Liguria also offers excellence in the logistics sector at the service of temperature-controlled products. It is an important moment because at this international event Liguria will present itself with a uniform pattern, continuing to make a system “.

The main appointment at the Liguria stand will be on February 6th at 11 am, when a conference will be held to present the major investments that logistic operators have made in recent years to guarantee adequate performance for the fruit and vegetable sector, as well as the investments of terminal operators , which today can offer around 4,000 plug-ins throughout the system, that is electrical outlets for refrigerated containers.

The port system of Genoa and Savona has handled 120,000 reefer containers in 2019, many of which are used for fruit and vegetables. The Psa Genova Prà terminal is organizing a new railway service dedicated to temperature-controlled goods around its reefer park, with a particular eye on fruit and vegetables. The service, which will be presented in Berlin, aims to enhance, also for fruit and vegetables, the recent doubling of the connection between the Prà terminal and the national railway network. The trains that go mainly to Italy today will cross the border.
